The following measures will be taken if foreigners in Korea who are confirmed as a MERS patient or subject to quarantine fail to apply for extension of period of stay before the expiration date. We hereby ask for your cooperation in order to stop the disease from spreading further.
If a foreigner fails to apply for extension of period of stay before the expiration date as he/she is confirmed as a MERS patient or subject to quarantine, he/she can apply for extension of period of stay within 30 days after the quarantine period or treatment is finished without being punished for a violation of the Immigration Control Act.
Therefore, if you are a confirmed MERS patient or subject to quarantine, please visit the immigration (branch) office after the quarantine period or treatment is finished.
If a foreigner who entered Korea on a short-term visa is subject to departure suspension due to MERS, thereby cannot depart within the permitted period of stay, he/she can depart within 10 days after the suspension is lifted without applying for extension of period of stay*.
